Hi...I am a mom to a child with down syndrome. "special" is a term used alot, and I would like to give you my take on the word. to me it means a child that so freely gives their love to all who come in contact with them, they are free of prejudice and willingly accept all they meet with understanding and compassion. they are not judgmental of others nor do they know the meaning of the word hate. it is this child-like quality that they hold all their lives. a sense of innocence that is not lost once they become adults and are faced with the harshness of the world. so in my opinion they are special......not retarded, but human beings just like all of us.

Dont get cute. Thats a nice way of saying Retarded and if you want the truth they are special because they have not lost that child like innocence that you have.
