Yep, it's vet time. Here are some possibilities:

1. Hairballs. Even shorthairs get these.
2. Changing food. Cats have very sensitive digestive systems, and if you change their food, that needs to be done very gradually.
3. Wrong kind of food. If not already on it, change GRADUALLY to a pet-store quality product like NutriMax for senior cats. See your vet first.
4. Virus. Is your cat's head hot? They get the flu, too.
5. Extreme stress. Anything going on at home that your cat could pick up on?
6. Toxic injestion. Cats love transmission fluid! Yikes! It's a killer.
7. Disease. Older cats are more susceptible to diseases. Hopefully you have kept your kitty vaccinated against Feline Leukemia, Cat HIV, etc.
8. Vaccination. Sometimes the vaccines cause an upset stomach.

Bottom line: It's vet time.

You need to take your kitty to the vet asap. Vomiting can be a sign of kidney or liver disease, or something else that needs treatment. For 16 years old, I wouldn't be surprised if she's got some kidney deterioration. If that is the case, she needs labwork to determine what the problem is and then most likely a special food you get specifically from your vet that will help reduce the load on her kidneys and help them function better, plus usually some fluids to help keep her hydrated since her kidneys don't function like they should. If you don't feed the special food and get her treatment, she will just go downhill very quickly. It could be something else, but with an older cat vomiting, that's the first thing I think of. Let your vet determine what the problem is before you try a food that might actually harm her.

If your cat has suddenly started being sick, this could be a kidney problem. You really must take her to a vet asap. My old cat started being sick overnight, and after a day or two, we took him to the vet, who said he had a serious kidney failure. He had some medication, and a special diet (I think it was plain boiled rice, with boiled white fish) and lived for another year or so after that without any more problems.

Good luck - hope your kitty is ok.

My friend has an older cat ( I believe she is 14) recently it has been harder and harder for her to eat but she just tried Hills Science Diet Senior. The size of the pieces are much smaller and her older cat likes the food. Also awhile back another friend of mine had a very old cat (at least 16 or older) and this cat was very picky, had hardly any teeth and got sick on a lot of different foods. They ended up trying just about everything and finally tried baby food. I believe she was fan of the turkey. It may not be the best thing to feed a cat, but at that age you are just trying to give them as comfortable of a life as you can.

you need to get the cat to a vet for a check up. Being sick all the time is not normal and changing the food will not help if it has a growth, cancer, or any other problem.

I agree with several of the other answers--SEE your vet ASAP. My cat lived to be 20 years old. She also started vomiting her food around age 16, 17. It was her kidneys. We put her on a special food from the vet that would not tax her kidneys. The vomiting stopped.

Good luck. Hope your baby gets better and continues to bring you joy.

The age of the cat probably has nothing to do with it getting sick. There is something wrong and you need to take her to a vet.

Our cat was doing the same thing. Our vet sold us some hypo-allergenic canned food for him. He does better on it than he did on Iams. Also, I have to feed him small quantities at a time. Dry cat food made him sicker than canned.
