I've tried qite a few and Shutterfly is the best. Here's why. You can edit. User friendly site. Respond quickly when questioned. Free prints when others open accounts. Store images for at least the 2 1/2 years I have been using them. I have a buh-zillion images stored. They offer several ways to send images (ie, a seperate collection). Good printing. Several ways to print including albums which I love. They offer tons and tons of borders too if you are in to that. I recently tried about 8 other sites to see what was out there. I LOVED mpix prints the best but shutterfly couldn't be beat when it comes to their site and editing options. You should give them a whirl. Good luck.

Yahoo! Photos is good, and the best thing about them is that they offer unlimited storage space for storing big photos. You can also try Picasa web albums. Download Picasa from http://picasa.google.com , signup for a Google account and configure it to upload your photos (and entire albums) to Picasa web-albums. The process is easy and doesn't take long. The only disadvantage (as of now) is that they offer only 250MB of storage space, which may not be adequate if you have a large number of photos.

Well you are already doing it right. Just make an extra CD of every thing and keep it with a friend or colleague. Just think a minute. How long do you think it would take to upload all of your images even FTP? And how much space are you going to use on the server ... think that will be free? Of course if you do have a disaster, you will have to download all of them again. Just make extra CD's or DVD's of them and store them offsite.

I'm a photographer and I picked http://www.fotki.com to store my photographs. It's very flexible, full of options about how you want your photos to be seen, obtained or even hidden in one way or another. If you pay $25 (I think) you can get a year of unlimited storage. You can order prints very cheap and they are of great quality.
I've got something like 14 gigs worth of photos on there so far. It's really a great way to store and share a massive number of photos easily. Check it out.

Yahoo has their own album service @ http://photos.yahoo.com
Photobucket you already have is a perfectly good service too.
I also just recently (lastnight) discovered one @ http://www.panoramio.com which allows you to upload pictures, mark on Google maps the spot where you took it, and shows them off on GOOGLE EARTH (http://earth.google.com)
If you're having trouble with them taking ages to upload (even on Broadband), then best advice is to do what I do, and resize them specially for viewing online......... I usually standardise all mine to 373x249 or 373x280 (depending on what mode camera was in when I took them, such as 4M Fine / 4M Normal / 3:2, etc) and save them as .jpg's.
I been doing it like that without trouble since 1999/2000 when I got my first ever KODAK picture-CD with developped prints, and was still on dial-up & 75MHz Pentium1 processor/16MB RAM.......... and still do it now I'm on a 1.1MBps broadband connection & 3.33GHz Intel Celeron D processor/ 1GB RAM + a half decent digital camera taking up over 2GB of Hard drive space in less than a year.

I am going to ditto the Flickr suggestion... it is perfect for what you want... and you can make a portfolio private if you like... so only people with the password can see them. Great for family shots you don't want to share with the world.

A lot of people like Flickr (www.flickr.com). I don't use it because I already have a website, but everyone talks about how much they like it.
