It all depends on the height and distance you want on the ball. If you want to get the ball up in the air more, keep the ball just inside your front foot to the center of your front foot. If you want it low, play it about 6-8 inches from the inside heel of your front foot. To hit it longer widen your stance. This does an unbelievable amount to gaining distance. The ball WILL DRAW a lot more, so you might want to get used to this by practicing on the range before you take it to the course.

I hit my fairway woods pretty consistently. My stance is in between driver width and iron width. I generally place the ball slightly forward. I would agree with the above, I do tend to take a more deliberate backswing than I do with my driver or irons.

I don't NUKE my fairway woods, but I consistently hit them straight and long.
