I adopted a abandoned cat that showed up at my door. It has really long white fur....but it is getting large, tangled mats of fur on its hips. I have tried a cat comb and a dog brush..neither work. I can't cut the mats out because its too big of an area. Does anyone know how to help Fluffy the Kitty?

Try a dematting comb

they say for dog but work well with cat's too... some stores sell ones just for cats. You can try sprinkling a little baby powder on the comb and the mats to help "glide" it through a little easier.

If this doesn't work.. you might want to take her to your vet or a groomer and ask for a "lion cut" which is what I have to do with my cat... they shave everything except the face, legs and tail and then start grooming every day from then on.

Good luck, hope this helps.

You can buy a de matting comb at the pet store (Pet Smart) You need to be careful though as there is a very sharp razor on the comb( follow directions) Don't get the cheap one as it doesn't work' This one costs about $20 but it is what the groomers use. You can use that in conjunction with scissors, being very careful not to cut the cat. Or you could take it to the groomer.

Once the fur is matted, there really isn't much choice but to cut out the affected areas. It's not done very often but the groomer can give Fluffy a haircut that will look just fine.

Take fluffy to the groomer. They will know how to get rid of the mats.

My aunt has several long haired cats that don't tolerate brushing so she goes to the vet and gets lion cuts for them every now and then.

Take her to a groomer. Let them do what they need to do about it and then i suggest brushing her everyday to keep her from getting anymore matted up hair!!
