Here's the joke:

God and Satan are chatting.

God says, "Aren't those people I made just wonderful? I want them to feel things around them that are greater than themselves. I am going to give them a special gift -- spirituality!"

Satan replies, "Oh good! Tell you what: I'll organize it for you, and we'll call it religion."

God made man. Man created religions.

Religion is created after a son of God leaves the love behind and departs from the world. After the Son is gone man creates a religion. The religion incorporates symbolism, customs, laws and rituals for one to worship God. It is man's interpretation of what Christ or Allah said.

Spirituality is the worship of God without the ritual and customs of religions. You do not need a religion to commune with God. ith Every thought, word, or deed in your heart is heard by God. You do not have to pray out loud, you do not need to light candles or sing/chant.

These religious rituals are nice things and it is good to worship God. You can be religious and also spiritual

However we all have our own personal relationship with God and Spirituality is cutting away all the crap and getting down to the nitty gritty. Sounds as if you might be in need of a spiritual teacher, guru etc.

God is love and the way back to God is through love.

religion is organized and often works with fear. spirituality is working, learning or understanding things that can not be proved with scientific means. it is beyond "matter" and therefore "spiritual". everybody is free to study spirituality without being bound to a religious concept with endless rules and regulations. you don´t have to be in a religion to be spiritual and you don´t have to give up your religion either. you can also be a scientist and occupy your mind with spirituality at the same moment. no problem. you are free to do what you want.

Spirituality implies the involvement of your spirit with another spirit. I believe in God and that He created us as spirit beings.
Religion, although sometimes referred in a negative way, is basically the fundamental beliefs and practice of those beliefs.
Although it is not perfect, without an established "religion", people would just make up anything to suit themselves and end up believing in some random thing and lead other people into believing it also. For example: scientology and mormonism

The simplest way I can put it, from the way I was taught, is that Religion is followed and Spirituality is found.

Religion involves following a specific set of rules and regulations, a specific diety.

Spirituality is what's found inside - your hunger to know the unknown, to see the unseen, as well as the innate need to live one's life knowing that there is something greater than ourselves and living our lives for the "greater good."

You'll probably get some web-sought pre-fab answers as well, but this is what the difference is to me.

Everyone has spirituality because it is that part of us that we cannot see. It is what makes us conscience of the dishonest things we do. It is what tells most of us there is a GOD. It tells us that we have a hand in creation because we are made in the image of GOD.

Religion is words.....nothing more. Idea's that are in good sense but lack realism....religion separates human beings because its sole purpose is to conqueror the other religions.

Spirtuality comes with our existance, very natural. On the contrary Religion is an environmental phenomena a governing tool for a society. Religion attempts to define and interpret spirtuality but mostly fails.
In liberal sciences, spirtuality is more a psychological thing and religion a sociological feat.

Religion is organized; spirituality isn't. Christianity is more spirituality than religion.
