I recently travelled from Schiphol (Amsterdam) to Ohare (Chicago) in the last week of December. I bought a couple of bottles of spirits (liquor and perfumes) from duty free shop at Schiphol. They handed me these just before entering the plane and these were sealed in plastic bags and I was instructed not to open the seals until I reach my destination airport.

So, YES, you can take duty free spirits on flights to USA .

If you buy the spirits in the duty free shop at the airport, the shop will deliver it to the plane for you. You may not bring spirits to the airport and expect to board the plane. You may however, pack it if you think it will make the ride.

Check out the BAA website: http://www.baa.co.uk/.
There is a link to the security restrictions on their homepage.
I haven't flown to the USA since September- I've heard things are more relaxed now.
