I use the microwave all the time to steam veggies. The retain thier color and vitamins. Takes very little time. I have a fresh vegetable key on mine and all I do is put 2T water into a bowl with the veggie, cover it and hit the key. Done in a jiffy.
There are pros & cons with regard to this method, and granted there are some things you should not cook in a microwave. Veggies is not one of them.

Vegetables can be cooked in microwaves to help retain their vitamins and minerals :because they won't loose nutrients by boiling the loss is less. It also gives a roasting effect. When a little h20 is put in a plastic bag and places in the micro it gives a steaming. This prevents moisture loss and helps too. It is a great way to cook and is useful, IMHO

Micro "waves" zap your food with radiation to heat it up. You are exposing your food to radiation, and then eating it. Sure, microwaves save time, but they deplete the nutritional value of your foods, and add toxins at the same time.
