color, draw, use small paper bags and make hand puppets, make cookies ask parents first), watch a movie, go to the park (ask parents first), play games, buy a cheap single use camera and let her play dress up if it is OK with the parents. Take her picture and just give the camera to the parents to develop. They would probably love to see pictures of the fun their daughter had.

I have a five year old and all I can tell you is they are all different.

My son is very independent so if you were to babysit, there is not much you would have to do but play with him.

Be prepared though, some five year olds can't go to the bathroom unassisted, may have trouble sleeping alone, eating unassisted, etc.

Your best bet is to ask the mother of this child how she is.

And crafts are the best thing to take with you. All girls like nail polish, gluing stuff on paper, painting, etc. Just ask her mom if its OK to bring that stuff.

If not, rent the Wizard of Oz or some other movie, pop popcorn and enjoy. (Again I would pass all of this through Mom and see if its ok)

I have a 5 yr old daughter and I can tell u that if u give them things that they enjoy u will see how easy it is to watch them. At this age they usually like cartoons, preferably movies if u have them such as disney princess movies or movies for little girlies. Just make sure she is well fed,she gets her bath (if u have to give her one),a movie will keep her occupied and happy for a little while...Some toys such as barbies and coloring books are always a fun thing to do when your at that age also. To not leave yourself out try playing a game with her or make some little crafts even if thats just coloring along with her,she will truely enjoy the time with you as a friend as well as a babysitter, Have fun!

You play and act silly. 5 year olds are lots of fun, as long as they are free to be exactly what 5 year olds are meant to be: wild and fun. So, play lots of games, and use your imagination. Pretend play is a great way for these kids to learn. Just be sure the space you have for her is safe and clean. Otherwise, just think of yourself as a 5 year old, remember? Anything goes.

A colouring book, pencils/crayons, a DVD (anything from Disney) and a couple of dolls should do the trick. If the little miss doesn't want to 'join in the fun', you could always try to bake cookies (the pre-mixed boxes works wonders!). If all else fails: dress-up and make-up? LOL!

Read her books. Sit and play whatever she wants to play. If it's nice you could take her to the park. Five year olds can play simple board games like chutes and ladders or ludo, with supervision. They can play memory games. Girls like to talk so they're a little easier.
You could also give her markers and plenty of paper and let her draw.

Make sure you are stocked with crayons, markers, paper, and playdough.
You can also bake cookies, go to the park, invite one of your friends little siblings over.
Hopefully, this is not something you are going to do on a regular basis yet, as it seems that you are not quite ready.
Good luck.

Girls this age are very easy to take care of. Are you going over to her place, then it should be no problem since she must havce toys and coloring books. If not, try to get activities for girls her age, they like to color and cut/paste things, make jewelry or foamy frames (you can get these al Wal-mart). This will keep her busy for hours. GOOD LUCK!
