My Griffon is a 2 year old, neutered male. He will go several weeks and not mark, then suddenly start marking again. I also have a 10yr old female cocker and a 1/12yr old male Lhaso Apso. The Lhaso does not mark. And the female is older and pretty much leaves the young boys alone. I can't say that any one of them is the dominate dog and the boys are crated while we are gone. The Brussells also humps the female but only when I am letting her outside. He runs to the door and humps her until I pull him off. I've heard that it's a dominance thing. I can't seem to catch him marking put I know it's him because he is the only one that has been in the area. When I got him he was 6 months old and had been in a cage at the pet store for 3 months. He humped EVERYTHING and would cling to me or my husband. I would say he was very insecure and I wonder if him marking has something to do with that. He has gained some confidence and is much less skittish. He's a great little guy but can't stop marking

Have you tried an enzyme cleaner on the areas that he has marked? I find Natures Miracle works the best. But it doesn't work overnight. It takes time to kill the urine and the scent. So use it often and make sure you get all the scent out. When I had this problem, I would spray it down, let it sit, and wipe it up. On my carpets I would apply it, let it sit and use a carpet cleaner to extract the moisture. Then I would use a laundry basket over the clean area to deter my dog from using that spot again, and let the enzymes do their job. Even though I could not smell or detect the urine, I kept on using it a few more times just to be sure my dog couldn't detect any scent. It took a while, but my carpets are now urine free, marking free, and my dog only goes outside.

Good luck

I have the same problem with my jack russell so can't answer that ,but I would not say that it is insecurity or stress that makes him do it. You have the other dogs so maybe that is the problem. Mine is worse after being in contact with other dogs in the family

Try keeping him at your mother-in-law's place.
