the heart recieves oxygenated blood from the lungs which passes into the left atrium then goes through a valve (forgotten the name) into the left ventricle to be pumped around the body from the aorta..

the blood returns to the heart in the vena cava and enters the right artium then goes through a valve (again forgotten the name) into the right ventricle to be pumped up to the lungs in the pulmonary artery to get oxygen...

the pulmonary artery unlike most arteries carries deoxygenated blood..

hope it helps x

lets start with the heart, 1) from the superior/ inferior vena cava - deoxygenated blood from your body goes to the right atrium (RA) in your heart. 2) once its filled in that chamber of the heart then the tricuspid valve opens for the deoxygenated blood to flow into the right ventricle (RV) 3)after that the blood goes to the pulmonary valve where it opens into the pulmonary arteries (PA). 4) from the PA goes to the lungs where the exchange of oxygen takes place at the alveoli's capillaries. 5) so now, we have good oxygenated blood that's from the lungs and now are gonna go back to the pulmonary veins (PV) and back to the heart. 6) now we're on the left side of the heart where the blood from the PV enter the left atrium (LA) and via bicuspid valve (BV) into the left ventricle (LV) 7) from the LV goes via aortic valve and into the aorta (AO) 8) and last goes to the rest of the body thats as simple as i can get it... only 8 steps for how the heart works and how the lungs work with it.
