Everyone has one. Because everyone is a spiritual entity. Whether they believe in the One True God or the devil himself, or allah or atheism, or whatever ism, or nothing they still have a religion even if it is a religion of one - oneself as god.

Same as not believing in the tooth fairy. Do you still believe in the tooth fairy, even though so many kids' receive money under their pillows? And those kids could testify the tooth fairy visited them, but logic states that they are looking at it with the logic of a child where magic is real and anything they can't explain is magical. The people who have no religion have grown up and use logic to analyze the situation, hence realizing that religion is not for us. In addition, when you look at the financial statements from the churches, you also realize that it is huge business, the church collects more money per year than any other business on the planet and are the largest land owners, art owners, etc. It has always been a business venture and always will continue to sucker in the childish minded people who think magic can still happen.

They can. Maybe they believe in God, or something else, but they don't take part in a specific religion. They just believe in something.

Maybe the question should be "How can someone not believe in God?" Maybe they are too busy in life thst they do not try to find out who created them. If we look at even the simplest of things, we can see that some one great had to have created it. For example, a single cell. It's the smallest part of humans. But even inside that cell there are DNA, RNA, proteins, nucleus, chromosomes, and so many other things, that it couldn't have been created by accident like the Big Bang theory. There must have been God that created a cell so amazing! So, if people just think about a cell seriously, maybe they would see that God, who is so creative and smart, created them.

My case: I realized that I accidentally was born into a cultural background where a certain religion was practiced. It wasn´t my choice. My deepest yearning is to be free. So I had to give up my religion in order to be free and to choose what I really want. Now I have a religion again. It only has one member: Me. At least we always share the same opinion and we have no mission.... besides being free and we respect all other religions. That´s easy when you are your own religion.

If you research all the religions you can find in the world, you can see that each religion claims to be the one that is right. Who do you believe? That is how someone could have no religion. Freedom of thought and free will.
Some people do not seem to need religion to live a good and moral life. Others seem to be unable to figure out what to do on a day to day basis without it.
Each person has to make the choice for himself. Faith in a higher power varies from person to person. I myself do not trust much to what men preach, but rather to that "small still voice" inside me.

I agree with Toy4Syd. I am a non-practicing Catholic and am much happier not practicing. I have faith but I don't need to go to a building to practice my faith. I became irritated with the Catholic religion because they were constantly asking for $ for this and that and the other. At the church I used to go to there is a school attached, members donated money for a new roof and new playground equipment. Instead of using the money for what it was intended, the priests used the money for a retreat of some sort.

I need faith, not religion.

It's called, "I don't believe in God." Any organizing principle without a belief in the supernatural may be a philosophy, but it ain't a religion.

But most people coast through life without even a thought about any organizing principles. And most people who claim to have a religion are only barely articulate in it.

There are more practicing agnostics than acknowledging agnostics in the world.

The Qur'an teaches us that the human race is given an innate spirituality are inherent in human existence,
but this spirituality can betray us if it is not led in the right direction. To depend on a merely human
feeling of the guiding Spirit is dangerous. Many groups, even cults, claim to be guided by the spirit or
by God or by revelation, yet these groups hold divergent, even contradictory, beliefs. We find people
behaving in contradictory ways who claim nonetheless that each is doing the will of God. "I feel," they
say, "that the spirit guides and directs me."

A credible source of revelation is imperative. Throughout history Allah has selected particular
individuals to convey His message, to receive His revelation and to exemplify it for mankind

God provides us with the purpose of our existence and if we seek to do good it is the same as seeking to do the will of God. Your belief in God only has value in so far as you live your life according to His purpose for you.

How then do we know what is the will of God? That is where religion comes in. GOD has revealed His will through prophets. To find out what this is you need to study the revelation

Some people believe that scientific facts rule out the possibility of mystical beliefs. Many of the stories that religions are based on go against everything that is known scientifically. They defy physics and logic.

Some people choose to live their lives without the thought of a gift of immortality. They don't worry about dying because they're leaving something behind that will make a difference. They don't need to have their enemies get what they deserve. They don't need someone their to guide them along their life with words of peace, promise and hope. They've managed to find all they want or even need themselves. Most of us can't...but they have...so I'd just leave them alone.

If one categorically does not believe in the teachings of any one religion or if one is not sure whether religion is the correct answer to truth. Atheism is where someone doesnt believe in God. Agnosticism is where one is not sure either way.
