Shenzhen is very close to Hong Kong, and you can even take bus or train to there. most hotel in Hong Kong also offers the shettle bus, and it takes about1 hour.
if you want to visit another places close by, Guangzhou is another option. it is a historical city, and you can travel and shop for cheap too.
if you don't mind flight to another city, Shanghai and Beijing are good option. Shanghai is famous for new business centre and shopping, and moving fast than anywhere of them world. Beijing is a captial of China, and with the long histoiral place. more importantly, to visit Great wall and the building and place from 17th century.

Macau is not on the mainland! You have Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and New Territories all connected by the admirable MTR system. If you want to go to Macau then you need to go to the Ferries Terminal on Hong Kong Island. Your question cannot really be properly answered because everyone's interests differ. What interests you? Most of the museums are found in Tsm Sha Tsui, Kowloon. I suggest you do some research on the web or in your local bookshop before travelling. I would recommend NP360 on Lantau. this is a cable car journey up to the Big Buddha and Monastery. Tai Po and Sai Kung in New Territories are also worth exploring. Good luck.

Depends on how much time you hae. Gulin and Lijiang (for traditional Chinese scenery) are within easy rach - ab 1 hr froom HK. Also Kunming is 'nice'. If you want to see a Chnese holiday island with good resort accommodation and warm wather all year go to Hainan Island (Haikou or Sanya to get some contrast|). A good intresting trip is to take the ferry from Kowloon to Shenzhen - takes just over an hour - and then go to Xiamen (bus will take u to the airport.

countless Hongkongers nonetheless draw close to the days being a member of the colony and lengthy after the handover in 1997, they nonetheless imagine they are extraordinarily different chinese. a number of them even deny being chinese yet see the stupid concept of "Hongkongers" as a separate race / nationality, and at the same time as requested, they say they are Hongkong chinese with an emphasis on the note "Hongkong"! certainly, many westerners basically do not care, some westerners do not even understand the thanks to pronounced "Hongkongers"! very like the way i do not care even if a German is from the former East Germany or the former West Germany. If there is everybody who somewhat cares, it is purely a number of those chinese residing contained in the former colony. i'm a chinese born and stay in Hong Kong and paintings with westerners. I really have not in any respect met a westerner who deliberately tries to tell apart between an islandic chinese and mainland chinese like it somewhat concerns. To them, we are all chinese. very like the way we do not care even if an american is from Texas or Alaska. it is the stupid yearn to be above something (like contained in the colonial days) that activates some Hongkong chinese to attempt so demanding to tell apart themselves from the perfect a million.3 billion chinese and to make a international-huge proclamation that they don't look from the north. If a westerner asks me the position i'm from, i might want to assert China, not Hongkong. i might want to assert i'm a chinese, without the stupid prefix of Hongkong. If he thinks all chinese are communists, i might want to tell him not everyone love waging wars in overseas international places. If he thinks chinese are backward, uncivilized and uneducated, i will educate him otherwise with my deeds, not a self-serving label of "Hongkong chinese". If he's attracted to stereotypes better than attending to entice close me, i might want to easily desire him success contained in the recent century and maximum of all, I shall not attempt to toughen his stereotype with information from cladding myself in a "Hongkong chinese" disclaimer.
