2 y/o are fun! My son, 2 1/2 LOVES water play. I just set him in front of the sink with some plastic containers, sometimes toys, and a towel on the floor and let him pour water back and forth etc! That is a lifesaver for us, because he will do this on his own for at LEAST an hour, much longer if I let him.

They like to help with anything, so if cooking, let him tear lettuce or stir

Dance and make tunnels and put the kitchen chairs to trains!

They have those foam stickers my son LOVES those and can do those by himself. Give him some stickers and blank paper, he can have fun
Stamps
I could go on... but have to go! Hope you get some good ideas!

My 2 year old son likes to color. Or maybe you can try cartoons. If that doesn't work, take him/her outside(if weather is nice)to play. Down here in Lower Alabama it is still 70 degrees. If you are located near a zoo, take him there. My son likes the zoo. You might try getting a small dog. There is nothing like having a good pet around the house. Comes in handy for a playmate. Good Luck :)

That note of yours sounds like a warning that should be stamped on all two year olds LOL. Anyway, try buying some crayola wonder paper and paint. The color only shows up on the paper so he/she can't make a mess.

there are so many things you can do with kids this age, like playing tag (they will giggle uncontrollably as you chase them around and finally tackle and tickle them) to coloring, reading a book, showing them how to make good use of their toys (since they never like playing with them), getting out some pots and pans and a wooden spoon and letting them bang on all the pans (this can be very noisy, but will keep them entertained for a while) dancing with them, etc. You really want to get them into a lot of physical games like chasing them around or dancing so you can wear down all that enery that way they are ready for naptime and ready for bedtime.

Playing with cornflour is great for kids of that age, although can be very messy!!
put some cornflour on a plate/bowl/tray and add a small amount of water. when u scoop some of it up its hard and then it goes runny in your hand!
You can also add food colouring.
