I've had fine luck with Lucerne (the Safeway brand), and grate it myself. That preshredded stuff just doesn't melt the same, with any brand.

Sargento makes a good cheese as well as Kraft but, in your deli almost any brand will do, just don't buy imitations. It's a good idea to use a blend of cheeses like mozzarella and provolone because of the melting factor, it gives better coverage.

I am from New York and now live in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I have tried many many brands here in Cleveland, but none of them compares to Polly-O Brand in NYC and surrounding areas. The closest mozzarella that I can find here is Sorrento but there is really no comparison. Allot of my family members, who live in different states make homemade pizza and all prefer Polly-O. It is the dough that really counts though. If you have a good recipe for homemade dough, you're half way there. Then there is the sauce. Whatever you do, please do not use canned pizza sauce on homemade pizza. It defeats the purpose of making it homemade.

I am the pizza queen in my house. I use either the store brand or Kraft. buying mixed cheeses can end up disasrerous depending on how picky you and or your familes tastes are.

My in demand mix is 0.5 mozzarella and 0.5 better sharp cheddar. in simple terms mozzarella will be slightly too bland so the pointy cheddar provides it a magnificent kick! Mmmm... Now i'm taking under consideration making a pizza this evening!

fresh is best, comes in a ball packed in water but it won't spread out and get gooey. Use any pre-shredded cheese for pizza like we get at pizza inn, hut, papa john etc..it's all pretty much the same.

It has a melt that must be seen and tasted to be believed...
