I am 16 and have seen this guy who seems very lovely. He works in a shop i visit very often so i see him everytime i go in there. I never thought anything big about him until yesterday and now i can't think about anything else. I always thought myself an old fashioned girl and that my first boyfriend would come along at the right time. The thing is, i think he's 20/21 and i'm a mature person with my head on my shoulders, so i don't think age is important in this case. I'm a person who concentrates on my studying and i know for a fact that having a boyfriend would never change that for me. All i'm wondering is: do you think i should stop thinking about this guy or start talking to him and show him im interested? I'd appreciate any help as im very confused! Thankyou :-)

Where i live, it's not illegal for a 16 year old to date a 20/21 year old, if he's even that age... :-)

What i'm also wondering is: is it ok to have a boyfriend at this age or should i wait?

You sound like a very mature young lady, and you express yourself very well. However, I don't think that you should pursue a relationship with this guy. He may be a nice guy, but he is at a different stage in life than you are, and even though you are very mature, you are still 16 years old.

A 20 year old man is more than likely going to want to be with women his own age or older eventually. Even if he talked to you, it would probably not last.

It's possible that this 20 year old would want to have sex with you eventually, and you don't need that pressure in your life right now.

You sound very intelligent, and you have your whole life ahead of you to fall in love with the right person. Give yourself time to do well in school, enjoy time with your friends and family, get ready for college, and to grow a little bit more.

You will probably keep thinking about this guy because you like him. That's normal, but I would not talk to him or tell him you like him.

I have seen too many young ladies get involved with older men, and it most often had a bad outcome. I would hate to see a smart young lady like you make that same mistake.

Hope this helps. Take care.

There is nothing wrong with getting to know him and being his friend. If your not sure about his age why not ask him casually?

Once you start to get to know him and see what he is really like and whether he is really what your looking for in a future boyfriend or not. good luck.

I don't see a problem. Luckily you said you're legal. Ha. I'm in America; I'm 16, and dating a 20 year old. >.>

I do not think the age factor is that big of a deal .... anyway ..... it sounds like you are not in America ... that is good ... so like you say, there should be no legal issues .....

Just want to be sure he has character and will treat you well, you know? A good indicator are the friends he keeps now ... if he hangs out with questionable people ... forget it.

I know you know this .... but ..... what ever happens DO NOT GET PREGNANT .... go take a look at the other pregnant teens that ask questions about there here .... it is a disaster .... but when you are 16 and in the heat of the moment, the future implications are not what you think about .... be careful. Real careful.

best of luck to you ...

Why not go for it? So far you've only stated reasons why you can/should go out with him, and I think you're right: start talking to him!

If it's not illegal, then I guess you should just go out with him,
