My cat received an injection in her right hind leg ysterday. She is now walking with a limp and seems to be walking on her hunch instead of her foot. It apears to mimic foot drop in a human. I haven't returned to the vet yet. I need help on treatment and prognosis ASAP.

If your vet is following the recommended protocol for vaccination the rabies shot is put in the right leg, the leukemia shot in the rear left leg and the FVRCP in the shoulder area then she probably had a rabies shot and that is the one most likely to get a reaction such as soreness. It should be transitory and I would call the vet Monday morning if she is still having trouble with the leg.

I am not sure what they will do about it and the vet will determine if you should bring her in.

The right leg, left leg, shoulder protocol was started a few years ago because cats were getting injection-site carcinomas. No one knew which vaccine might be causing this as they were all put in the shoulder area. If a cat gets a cancer in the shoulder area it is inoperable and the cat will die. Legs can be amputated to stop the spread of cancer and save the cat's life. I think vets have now concluded that the leukemia vaccine is the culprit. Not all cats will get cancer from the vaccine and some will.

you need to take your cat back to the vet and find out what is going on with your cat. You can not wait long when it comes to your cat. Cats are like children and when they get sick or get hurt you need to take them to the doctor right a way. Please take the cat to the vet know. Good luck

for kitty's sake, call the vet. it coulde be nothing but a sore muscle(kind of like us when we get a shot), the vet could have hit a nerve when injecting, or it could be the start of a slight infection

Most likely it is vaccine reaction, but as a precaution, take her into your vet, ASAP.
