I have a 96 JGC Laredo and I have had nothing but very minor problems. I highly recommend it. Your best bet though is to have a mechanic get a quick look at it. Although I have to tell you that the chance of there being something drastically wrong with a 02' is not that high. If you are buying from a person - have it checked out; from a dealer - you should be pretty safe.
Good luck!
PS - check the tread on the tires - if they are low you might be able to haggle for a new set or lower sale price. Tires for GC are expensive.

We have a '93 Jeep Cherokee Sport and it is still running great! It's got like 140,000+ miles on it too. But my hubby said that they have changed the engine since then. However, if I had to buy a Jeep again, I would do it. Good luck!

My mother had a 2001 Cherokee Laredo and she loved it. It ran great and it was comfortable.
My boyfriend also has a Jeep now and he's in love with it. Overall, Jeeps are just good.

I have a 96 Grand Cherokee Limited, 190,000 miles on it 4.0L Inline 6 engine, and haven't had any major trouble other than normal maintenance, replaced the started at 188,000 miles and the radiator at 185,000 miles. Great reliable transportation, and I get an average of 26MPG mixed city and highway driving, and my jeep is full time 4WD. Do all your regular maintenance i.e. oil changes every 3,000 miles, and transmission service every 55,000 miles and your jeep will give you many years of trouble free service.

I relatively have a 89 Jeep Cherokee and as quickly as I relatively have a overall performance situation, i visit '2CarsPro' to the 'vehicle restoration by potential of subject matter' section. whilst i visit my mechanic for restoration, i'm waiting to communicate on there point nicely adequate to speak the subject. i won't be in a position to rceommend 2CarsPro surprisingly adequate.

I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. BEST INVESTMENT WE EVER MADE.
THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LAREDOS AND I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT YEARS THAT WERE RECALLED, BUT THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A MODIFICATION TO THE MANIFOLDS BECAUSE SOME CAUGHT FIRE. MAKE SURE THAT THIS WAS DONE BEFORE YOU BUY IT.
