The crime rates do go up when this lot shows up.
If homeowners or those living on estates were so messy, they would be in real trouble.
I am not sure what can be done with the traveling people though.

PS As others have said, they have no recorded addys, no way to track them. I think the best way is to make them move along.
I hate to say it, but I have no patience with that lot. They want no responsibility but as soon as one gives birth, or is sick, then they do want hospital.

They seem to be fireproof.
the cops think it's too much trouble and paperwork to try and get a conviction for minor offences (driving without insurance, driving unsafe vehicles with no MOT, fraud, fly tipping, petty theft, etc, etc).
the cops would far prefer to get their stats up with easy convictions that require little paperwork (ie, manning a speed camera).
also try getting a conviction where there's 10 caravans/ 40 people and every single person is surnamed 'Smith'
{edit} -Gozaine says:"remember that from a travellers point of view it [leaving trash behind] serves a valuable purpose. "
ah...so that explains the (local) recreation ground, that gypsys camped on a few years back. When they eventually got rid of them, the recreation park and football pitch had to be closed for weeks while people picked up the building rubble left behind... the bricks and bits of plaster board were not so bad, it was the thousands of nails and glass shards that had been casually strewn over the place, and that had to be individually picked up.
I am sure the local council tax payers will be glad to know that there was a reason for the money that clearup cost.
then there was the time they targetted a local supermarket car park, and when they left there was a pile of rubble so high, it looked like a 2 storey house had been knocked down.
lets face it, these people are scum. the days when the romany traveller was 'at one with nature' are long gone. nowadays these people have zero regard for the environment and zero regard for anyone who is affected by their nasty habits

What are the police supposed to do about it if the group has moved off? Though we find the rubbish offensive and unsightly it is worth remember that from a travellers point of view it serves a valuable purpose. Rubbish left around like that is evidence that people have camped in that area before and therefore it is a good campsite. This is a useful sign for any future groups of travellers that pass that way.
Travellers get a lot of bad press that they don't necessarily deserve. About 8 years ago a massive group of travellers gathered on Great Yarmouth sea front for Christmas. My parents live just around the corner from where they were camping. There were rumours going around that they caused loads of trouble, smashed in a shop front and there was loads of arrests none of this was true. Only 2 of them were arrested, and one of those was charged with being drunk in charge on a public road which the police later had to admit he wasn't as the road was closed. There was no rise in the crime rate, no violence, no excessive noise, no rubbish left around and every single one of the verhicles was taxed and insured, most of them were too new to need and MOT.
For the most part travellers are just people wanting to live in there own way. What's the harm in letting them get on with it.

They get away with it because they are not in the system. When you pay taxes, register a vehicle or buy property you are in the system and can be easily tracked down.
