My mom said it is crazy if anyone goes over a year without being potty trained because you teach your kids to be lazy and play with their toys instead of getting up to go to the bathroom. My mom said I was and my brother, both potty trained by age 1. Everyone I ask says 2 or 3. When was your child potty trained by and is it possible to do it in a year like my mom says? Thanks

I don't personally know anyone that has been potty trained by the age of 1. I was potty trained at 18 months, but even that is rare. I work in a day care facility as a 2 year old teacher. We work on potty training with all of our kids, but they usually just sit on the potty not doing anything until they are at least 26 months old. Very few are ready right after 2. But if you can potty train at 1, good job. But it's not to be worried about so early. If you want to start them early, then start trying around 17 or 18 months. If they seem ready before that and are interested in the potty, go for it. But also remember that girls tend to potty train younger than boys do.

My neice was potty trained before she was 1 but I tried with my daughter and it didn't work. About a week before my daughter turned 2 she started using the potty. All kids are different and it doesn't necessarily mean one is smarter than the other. I do believe the parent should try to have a child potty trained before age 3 because it gets expensive and some daycares and preschools will not enroll a child that is not potty trained.

I started my daughter on her potty at 3 months. She's definitely not potty trained, but now at 8 months, she mostly poos only in the potty and can go between naps without wetting her diaper. I put her on the potty every hour or so and she pees and gets herself off of it when she is done (with support) She is in cloth diapers so it is easy to tell if they are wet.
She likes her potty and we get very excited (as does she) when she pees or poos in the potty. I think she knows the potty is for pee and poo, but can't really communicate that she needs to go yet.

Whenever your child is ready to potty train you will know. Don't rush them cuz you will only be frustrated. All my kids potty trained at different ages, so like I said when they are ready you will know.

I have three children...2 boys, 1 girl. I suggest starting at 3. Mine were all trained by 3 1/2. All kids are different though! Keep that in mind! :)

Good luck! :)

The age of 1 is rare and I find that hard to believe. Most kids start at around 2.

MY son started walking at 8 months, so my friend told me i should try and potty train him, now that he could get to the bathroom by himself, so i did, i failed, he was still to young, he got scared by the sounds of the tiolet, so i stopped, then at age 2 he was in daycare, and saw the other kids going in the pooty chair, so he wanted to, so basically he told me when he thought he was ready, let your kid tell you when it it time, they are smarter than we think.
