how does atmosphere interact with natural gas?

Natural gas is very light and should rise to the top of the atmosphere ,but it is impossible to measure . Natural gas or methane is very explosive . If it were pooling high in the atmosphere it should of exploded when we fired missals through it . If there was a bunch of methane there we would of had a great explosion. If the methane is not there it can not be the cause of global warming.
