It keeps streching it's neck and opening it's mouth. He's not making any noise. It kind of looks like choking. He's new so usually when we come close to him he stops doing whatever he was doing and stares at us. But when we come close now he still keep doing this. Is this just what birds do?

Don't worry nothings wrong with it. I have 2 parakeets they do the same thing. They stretch their neck to sort of exercise like when we stretch out our hands when we're tired. And when it opens its mouth it's yawning. Usually it takes 3 weeks for your parakeet to adapt to its surroundings so it will take about a month for it to get used to you and until it starts singing. Try to communicate with it a lot then you and your bird will be friends and in no time your parakeet will be hand tamed. Have a tweet year

It could be a problem - there very well could be something stuck in his throat and if it's prolonged, the way he stretches out and opens his mouth, take him to an avian vet. If he's having complications, the vet will be able to do something about it.

Or it may not be a problem. He could be yawning. But again, if prolonged, see a vet if even only for closure that he's okay.

No it's not usual. It sounds like something - possibly a piece of feather - is caught in his throat. Take him to a bird vet and see.
