Good question but Christians are not perfect even though many wrongly hold us to that standard.

How do you know which person out there is a Christian, and a devote Christian at that? True Christians shouldn't overeat, shouldn't smoke, shouldn't get drunk, shouldn't masturbate, shouldn't swear, shouldn't gossip, shouldn't prejudge, should eat the foods that God created for us, should exercise regularly, should keep their hair and skin clean, should help others, should encourage others, should tithe, should use kind words, etc. And should also feed their souls with the Word of God daily. Do all Christian read the Bible daily, study it, attend a Bible study group weekly, go to daily Mass, receive communion daily or at least weekly, pray throughout the day, mediate on the stations of the cross, etc. "Your body is a temple" means more than staying skinny.

It was St. Paul. Christ was talking about HIS body being the temple that would rise again in three days ("Destroy this temple")

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body," (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

Because very simply, most of the people that call themselves Christians, don't follow the precepts of Christ, or his father. They follow the teachers who 'tickle their ears" they preach what the people want to hear. The inspired utterance say definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons. 2. By the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron. 3 forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be partaken of with thanksgiving by those who have faith and accurately know the truth. 1 Timothy 4: 1-3 If one accurately knows truth one will abstain from that which causes harm to themselves. Because truth is not accurately known, people overinduge in drinking wines, and alcohol, smoking, etc. you name it. If god was cared about and his regulations, then this sort of abuse would stop.

The passage reads, "Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own". (1 Cor. 6:18-19) The context is about sexual immorality. It says NOTHING about doing something to harm your body. To say that it means harming your body, is to tear it from its context.

"TEXT without CONtext becomes merely PREtext."

Everyone has their own burden in life. Some are fat, some are diseased with cancer, some are without sight or sound. They have to face life with their own burdens.

The best thing to do for your body (temple) is to stop sin from controlling you.

I hate to say but Christians these days are lazy!!!!
They want to do what they wanna do wether its acording to the bible or not. They rationalize the wrong that they do to make it right to them. A lot of Christians believe that they can do what they want and then ask God to forgive them thinking that everything is ok. God did not say that when we ask for forgiveness that it takes away the cosequences of our sin and thats what people forget. We still have consequences to out sin even though we ask God to forgive us.

Are earthly bodies really do not matter because we are here for a very short time. Our present bodies get sick and become a burden for us.They age and deteriorate. We wouldn't really want to live in them forever. We will welcome the new bodies God gives us when we die and leave these present bodies behind Love in Christ....Josie

Hindus have been doing it through Yoga and other purification exercises. Hindus are better Christians than Christians themselves.
