Only a little.

I hate needles too and work myself into way too much anxiety. My mother used to tell me that it doesn't hurt, but when it did I felt betrayed. Your mind totally magnifies how it will feel.

Just think about something else or listen to music while they do it. Bring along your MP3 player loaded with happy tunes.

Relax and breathe regularly.

Y'know...this sounds so familiar. I used to hate needles when I was a kid/teenager and into my early 20's. I even had my teeth drilled without novacaine because I didn't want the needle.

I did a stint in a lab when I was in college and had to work with human blood (project was determining which buffer solution was most efficient for artificial kidneys). Ever since I saw the "inside" of the whole giving blood system, I haven't been as concerned about them.

Needles for a blood test are SMALL. You hardly feel them at all, especially if the person taking the blood is well-skilled. Even if not, the pain literally lasts for about 1/2 a second. My suggestion for you is to ask them to count down 3-2-1 and have your other hand on the side of your chair. When she/he reaches "0", concentrate on squeezing the chair (or something else you are grasping). Clench your teeth, then just let it go. It's totally not as big a deal as I once thought it was.

The fear going in is worse than the actual prick of the needle.

It hurts less than getting a shot.
I hate needles, too; I just ball up my other hand and squeeze my nails into the palm - that actually hurts more than the needle, so it distracts you from it.
It will take them a minute or two to fill up the vial with the blood sample once the needle is in, so be prepared for that, but the only part you feel is the needle going in.

searching on your squeamishness, the suitable theory is to cajole your self now to not flow an inch and concentration carefully at something on the wall faraway from the area the position the blood is being drawn. in case you concentration on the quantity of pressure it motives it could be a difficulty interior the destiny. what's a reason that you've this pressure? replaced into there an journey on your existence the position you said others freaking out having blood drawn. What you're doing is mimicking the same habit as others which has been discovered. the reality is that trillions of individuals have it finished and none have died from the needle stick in itself. The extra you've it finished the a lot less probable you're to experience afraid. good success!

Tell the doctor or whoever taking the test you are scared of needles........he may talk to you before he does it or will try to take your mind away from it

You will feel a little prick as the needle goes in and thats about it

Best thing to do is not to look at it. Doesnt hurt that much, just like a pinch, its not like ur being stabbed with a knife or anything.
YOu may also get a little dizzy afterwards if you have low blood pressure.

I used to hate needles too and even look away when they put the needle in. But it's no more painful than a gentle little pinch.
Now I make myself watch them put the needle in, and it doesn't bother me anymore. It's all in our heads.

For me it feels like a warm pinch. I usually look the other way because I don't like needles, either. Tell the nurse/tech. that you're nervous, they usually do their best to make it as painless as possible.

Good luck, it won't be that bad, I promise!

No, not really. Just a pinch. It only takes a second. Since your scared just take a deep breath and don't look. You will be okay. I have many, many blood tests. They are not that bad.

It's like a pinch. Once the needle is in you.....I think the tourniquet pain is worse.
Overall, its very bearable...trust me. It's over before you know it.
