go to www.operationac.com you can sponsor a service member. I recieved packages while deployed from them and it was great..and to the other comment about most are poor thats not true. Most of there have good jobs at home or are active duty military some of course are poor but it is a cross section of America. Things that are always appreciated are coffee, snacks...cookies are great! Cross word puzzle books, dvds, hygiene items or anything that will brighten someones day.. When you put together care packages just imagine what you would enjoy getting. Most bases have pxs to shop at so stuff like wet wipes and toilet tissue are not usually needed. Just keep it fun and it will be appreciated.

I write to and send care packages to troops in Iraq, and I got their addresses through anysoldier.com. Most them aren't really writers, though, they'll send a postcard or a short letter of thanks and usually that's it. Occasionally there will be writerly one, but it's usually on general subjects, not the war. One guy sent me a jar of "genuine Iraqi sand."

Go to the post office and get a flat rate box.
Fill it up with whatever you want and ship it.
It costs about $8 no matter how heavy it is.
