Writing a great song is just like writing a piece of article. You need proper inspirations. So, think of your own past experience and link to your title. Good luck!

Try to think up a good tune in your head, have a play around on a piano, use some simple chord progressions....the list is endless! If you get a good tune, write it down somewhere or record yourself doing it, and reuse the idea - change some of the notes, add new rhythms, but keep the original idea. Repeat the original idea a few times (perhaps as a chorus?)
When you've got the melody sorted, think of some good lyrics to fit into it. Alternatively, try and write a poem, and then use the words from the poem to find the best rhythms. Then do the notes!
Theres a million different ways to write a song, but it takes time and patience (and sometimes a little luck!).
Good luck :)

Write the chorus first, so you get the feel for the whole song, and then write the verse and then the intro. It is best to write the melody while you write the lyrics, because it can often be hard to make lyrics to fit specific lyrics.
Find inspiration. Take some time and just brainstorm, then start writing it down. Maybe take a jog beforehand or do some musical exercises to get your creative juices flowing.
Good luck!

Why must you write a song about that?
A lot of artists (Well the real ones - not the fake britney spears ones) write their songs on what they're feeling at that moment in time.
Songs should come easy to you, like it's coming from the depth of your soul.
There's no one way to write a song. It's not written in stone or anything.

To write a great song the first step you should think about is the beat of the song.
