Kitty, a 13 year old female, spayed. There were no signs of any of this before my other cat, Bo (of 19 years ) died. Ever since her death,Kitty has been unbelievable. She wouldn't go upstairs for the longest time. That was Bo's space. Kitty will mostly be downstairs and constantly meow at 5:30 am and won't stop for hours or until someone feeds her. (She is fed twice or more daily, ) Then 15 min. later she throws it all up. We give her attention daily, she lays with us while watching tv.
Just recently she started over shooting her cat box. That's something my older cat did towards the end of her life. Any ideas?

Hi there...please consider ringing your veterinarian as this may merit an evaluation. Aging cats develop unusual behaviours sometimes as a result of a medical condition as well as from depression from grieving. It's better to err on the safe side of caution to catch any early signs of physical illness. Some of the feline aging disorders are life-threatening, however if captured early enough can be managed.

Your cat is mourning. First you might try a covered litter box and don't scold her. You can get pills from your vet for this. If you can find it in your heart, get another cat. If you do that you need to make sure they are introduced properly. I had this same experience once and got a kitten not knowing if it was going to help. My cat was 15 and I really thought she was going to die from loneliness. Believe it or not the kitten brought her back to life, running and playing and even letting the kitten suckle on her which was so funny since of course she didn't have milk. She lived to the grand age of 22. I'm sure she wouldn't have lasted another week if I hadn't made that decision. Good luck.

Okay, first off I would let her free feed anytime she wants as alot of cats when fed on a schedule will gorge themselves and then they will throw it up. Then I would get a deep kitty litter box, I bought a plastic Steralite bin to use for my kittys and they really like the privacy they have in it and cant make a mess. Good Luck!

Suprising to some, cats actually can go though depression. This may just be some symptoms of it. It is also possible that she is reaching old age (despite the fact that she is only 13). Her age isn't really too old to be nearing or at the end.
I would suggest taking her to the vet and having her diagnosed. If she is just depressed they might actually give her a prescription for antidepressants to help her out.

She sounds a bit depressed and maybe lonely. Have you consulted the vet? My old lady overshoots, too - I bought a cat litter tray with a lip on it, now she gets it in every time! What food are you giving her? She may have developed an allergy to it. Do you leave food down for her at night?
good luck with her, I hope you manage to get her sorted out xxx

My male cat does the same thing in his litterbox, I now use a plastic storage container, about 24 inches tall, I put his litter in that & he hasent had an accident since. As far as the meowing goes, some cats are just plain "verbal" & like to "talk to you.

She's lonely. I have a cat that my parents had to keep and she became best buds with one of their cats. When he died, she would still do all the things that they used to do. Then when I moved her back up with me at school she became a little reclusive. So I got a kitten and after she adjusted they're inseparable. They both don't care too much for my new doggie, but hopefully that will change. Hope this helps.

the meowing is a cry for attention..if u have another cat that may be the problem..throwing up is a sign of he or she doesnt like the food...aiming to high in the litter box is a sign of old age....some cats tend to get these signs earlier tahn others...for example i had my cat ben for 7 years since he was just born...now that he is an outside cat...if he accidentally fets locked inside the house he will tend to spary the pee...good luck

Yes, be nice to her for some days and feed her only when required. she will stop asking for extra food then. If this doesn't work then consult the vet. What food are you giving her? She may have developed an allergy to it. Do you leave food down for her at night?
