it all depends on the life style you have.

if your ready for a non-house trained puppy and willing to dedicate about 13 years of your life to a dog go ahead and get a puppy-they are fun and you can raise it any way you want to. if you decide on a puppy make sure it is at least 8 weeks old please. it will make for a much better dog.

if you want a young dog but don't want all the work of a puppy get a dog around 1-2 years old. they are a lot of energy but the basic obedience is probably already done for you.

if you don't want to be exercising your dog as much and would like a dog that just lounges around get an older dog maybe over 5 years old. they are still loving.

but everything really depends on how long you will want this dog for.(maybe you wont want it after the kids go to college etc.) dogs live for about 13 years on average, think about where you will be in 13 years. good luck!!!! and congratulations on getting a cute German shepherd

That depends entirely on you. If you have the time and knowledge to put in training a young puppy, then get a puppy - shouldn't be any younger than 9 weeks. Make sure it's from a very reputable breeder who has all of their breeding stock OFA certified for hip and elbow dysplasia, has eyes and hearts checked as well.

If you've never had a dog before, this is likely not a good breed choice for you.

I would recommend rescuing a dog that is over the age of one. In most cases, rescued dogs over that age are housetrained, have basic commands down, and aren't as rambuntious as puppies. Also, if you crate train they are able to hold their bladder for 8 hours while you are at work.

If you want to rescue a puppy you will have to deal with the housetraining, chewing, can't be left alone for more than an hour per month of age, etc.

If you want to take a chance on the dog turning out to be exactly what you want, get a puppy and be ready to put in the ammount of work required. If you want to know exactly what your dog will be like, get a young adult, between 18 months to 2 years.

A dog will respond to you better if you get it when it's still a puppy! At six weeks of age puppies are ready to be taken away from their mother. At this age they can eat hard food!

please do us a favor, if you are a under 13, please either click on check spelling or ask our folks to do that for you and if you don't know what age to B-U-Y then maybe the best thing to do is to ask your parents.
