Yes, you can lose your Green Card status in six-months, or even less. It is not just about the amount of time away from the United States - it has to do with whether you have abandoned your residence, whether you have filed your US taxes, etc.

The correct answer is 1 year. After a year you are considered to have abandoned your immigrant status.

If you've taken care of details (see above) I think it is if you are gone over 180 days ( 6 mos).

you can lose you status after nine months, but before you leave USA ask for re-entry permit.
