MOST of these people are wrong.
First, Atkins is not a "fad" diet. It is a way of life.
You dont eat "tons " of veggies. And you DO actually get to start phasing fruits and grains back in at a certain point.
It all depends on what phase you are on. If you are planning o doing it, you must get the book and read it. I have seen people that claim to be doing Atkins and in reality they have no idea what they are doing!!

You eat protein and healthy carbs - coming mainly from vegetables especially during the first 2 weeks.
After induction (which is the first two weeks) then you can increase your carb level.
I have no idea why people think Atkins is some kind of weird diet where you don't eat any carbs - veggies are carbs - its a matter of where you are getting your carbs from and how many carbs you are getting. Some veggies are not included because they are higher carbs.
Also atkins is a lifestyle - not a diet in the way a lot look at it. If you go on it just to lose weight and then go off it after - well like any diet ... if you start eating like you did before then you will gain your weight back. Lowcarbing works for some and some people don't like to do it.
But there are many things you can eat on atkins - meat, veggies, lowcarb breads and snacks (after induction and in moderation) - if you are past your active losing phase most lowcarbers add fruit but again in moderation. Reading the book answers a lot of these types of questions.

i tried the atkins diet , and in the first 2 or 3 weeks you're limited to no carbs at all. meat and eggs during this period and water will put your metabolism in ketosis which is the burning of fat . if you get the test strips they talk about in the book , after the strips turn purple ( urine strips) then the process has begun andyour weight loss will depend on how strict you remain in phase 1. i recommend you get the book, but this diet does work.i lost 28 lbs in a month. after you start dropping weight, weigh yourself often and keep a record of daily loss. you add a carb back into your diet after your weight loss has begun to stabilize the rate of loss and it lets you enjoy your food once again. now if you want a diet that works try this water for your drink and get a subway on wheat cut it in three pieces a third in the morning a third at lunch and dinner the rest no more the rest of the day it all comes down to smaller portions ( 45 lbs in 3 months) i'm on it now controlling my sugar it works- walking helps but i didn't do alot of it .i do now because i now feel great and want to . good luck

I suggest you stay away from the Atkins diet as well as other "fad" diets.
Atkins diet is non-sustainable. You do not get all the nutrients you need, while on it. You set yourself up for cardiac problems due to the overload of saturated fats, and you don't get proper "food" for your brain (which runs best on carbs).
The brain has near zero tolerance for fluctuations in blood glucose. Your body can and will convert fats to glucose if the diet does not provide a source of carbohydrate.
Atkin's diet is unsound and unsafe, and in fact is based on calorie restriction ((no snacks)), and also the anorexia that comes with ketosis (the body has better, but not unlimited, tolerance for acidosis/ketosis).
Stay with a low fat moderate carb and higher protein diet.

You can eat anything but carbs.
I know for like the first two weeks you only at veggies, then the next you only eat fruits, or something weird like that.
Acctually, I think they cut out fruits and you eat tons of veggies. Look it up. The main point is, you don't eat carbs at all.
