You left out luck and education. It's probably a combination of all of those things.
Hard work will get you no where if you are at a dead end job or held back. I learned that the hard way and sometimes you run out of time for second chances.
Attitude certainly is a prime factor. You can't get far without the drive and personality it takes depending on what it is you're going after.
Success can happen for many reasons. It can be luck, skill, the right place at the right time. It depends on what you do.
Education is often key in getting you places where others have to struggle years to get to by hard work, and may never because of the education limitation.
Skill and talent may be the key to success if you are an artist or musican or anything to do with the arts.
Hard work may be all it takes if you can work your way up a corporate ladder.
But luck may be all it takes if you saw an opportunity and went with it, as many did with the internet and the concept of google and yahoo and ebay etc.
BUT, all that material stuff aside, what makes a man or woman a success is really how they feel about themselves and what they value in life. So a mother raising children is every bit as successful as a Bill Gates if she's reached the threshold of success for what is important to her in her life.

It is both. Patience, stamina, humility, earnestness. Where I work the boss comes in at 8 or 9 am. We start at 5am. He leaves in the afternoon around 3 or 4pm. We work until sometimes 9 or 10 pm. He has a manicure and has less than a year with the company, but a college degree(desk jockey). No experience. He's running the place into the ground. We have a revolving door on the front. He is a success? He is, as long as he is riding on our backs.

Success can mean different things.. Some people work at Walmart..raise their kids, do the right thing.. They would be considered successful,,,, Sports figures who excel in their sport, make good money acquire a lot of "items", waste their lives on drugs and the fast life.. they might not be considered successful. For me.. It's a combination of attitude, doing the right thing and honesty in both your personal life and in your line of work. You only have one life. Make yourself and your family proud by giving back to society in terms of volunteering and being a model citizen.

neither attitude alone nor hard work alone can make a man success. If a person has the right attitude say a positive attitude and aims high but if he will not work hard to reach that goal it is useless hence attitude and hard work both are 2 sides of coin

The truly successful man is one that realizes material wealth and accolades have very little to do with success.
I know many men that fit that bill but are a failure at marriage and being a father.
