The company I work for recently switched from Blue Cross and Preferred Care to United Health Care. Thus far I have had numerous problems with United Health Care; could not retrieve temporary ID cards until the second week of January because there was a problem with entering the enrollment forms, misspelled my name which kept me from using insurance to refill a prescription and had to pay out of pocket, insurance claims are very slow, and poor customer service. Anyone else have feedback on United Health?

Also, is United Health an acutal insurance company or a TPA who simply processes our claims? If someone could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated.

I have had United Health Care for the past year and have never had a problem with them. I make sure I go to "in network" doctors to receive the highest benefit possible. You can check claims status at uhc.com.

Claims are paid only when the doctors office submits them. If you're doctor's office isn't submitting them timely that is not your fault nor is it UHC's. I have a doctor who waited 5 months to submit their bills and UHC paid them within a matter of days.

As for your personal info.....your EMPLOYER is responsible for getting UHC the CORRECT information on your name/dob, etc. If your EMPLOYER took information from your benefits enrollment form you filled out and mispelled your name--you need to let your HR office know nad have them correct the problem.

Any covered items you paid out of pocket for are reimbursable--just fill out a claim form and send in your receipt.

You can also go onto their website, access your account and search for drs, pharmacies, etc...and print i.d. cards.

United is an actual insurance company, not a clearinghouse. As for your experience with them - sadly to say, that's kinda normal for ALL the insurance companies. Each one is dumber than the next. If you have problems with the idiot who answers your call, ask for their supervisor, often, they're the ones holding the clue.
