well whether you or your friend realize it or not - this guy may have his preference between the two of you-or not like either of you at all. so how about letting him decide, and how about the two of you being adult enough not to let it break up the friendship if it isn't you he chooses.

Why don't you ask him who does he like more or think looks better. if he says you then fight for him and if its her then just let them be, someone will come ur way soon. And if ur friend is a really good friend and sees how heartbroken u r then she'll turn him down..

Well ask yourself who's more important to you? The guy, or your friend.
If it's the guy, fight for him.
If it's your friend, let the guy go.
