I currently have a shaved head. What is the best way to grow an indie style haircut?

I currently have a shaved head and want to grow my hair in an indie style but am unsure of the best way to approach this. Any help is welcome!!

I'm just looking for information as to whether i should just let it all grow back at the same time or whether i should keep the sides short initially.
