You need to uninstall Windows Defender and install the latest version from Microsoft's website.

I had this problem but to be honest windows defender is pretty useless. Upgrade to windows live onecare beta. It's a antivirus/ antispyware and firewall all wraped into one. And the best bit is that it's free (during the beta testing, then you get a 120 day free trial afterwards).

So far I've had no problems with the product.

P.S. Windows Defender will be disabled after the install, however will not be uninstalled.

Everyone is getting this problem who has not installed the latest version of MS Windows Defender.

No need to remove the old version, just download the latest version and install it. Problem will be gone next time you reboot.

I too have had this problem, however I overcame it by re-installing windows defender.

install newer version from ms website. mine did same and itsstopped now, for time being!

that is not one of the greatest programs out there ---try one of these -they are free superantispyware or spyware doctor starter edition

I don't know, but its happening to my PC too! I think I've ignored it too long because my PC is showing symptoms of a virus.
