1) get him a scratching post
2) spray him with water and lemon when he scratches the couch (not in the face)
3) give him a treat if he uses the shratching post
4) don't declaw him. it will make him bite more, because you took away his defences.

I think the reason Simba is scratching is because she saw or "smelled" that your first cat scratched that area. The first thing I suggest is a plastic cover. They are made specifically to put on the corners of furniture. ( I had one for mine.) The next thing you need is a scratching post. That's the tricky part because not all cats like the same material scratching post. Figure out which kind your cats like and put it near the furniture they used to scratch. (Notice I said, "Used to scratch" LOL). My cats both liked the scratching post that looks like it is woven with rope. You can either hang it or lay it on the floor. Because that's the next thing you need to notice. Some cats like to scratch things vertically (sounds like yours do) and some like to scratch on the floor (or both) Mine liked both. You can also use water to squirt the cat off the furniture and place them on the scratching post. (Add catnip to further entice them to use the post instead of furniture.) Although, if you try the plastic cover, you shouldn't have a problem on that piece of furniture.

Oh, and the person who said get a dog... that won't work. I have a siberian husky as well, and the cat is the boss!

Good luck.

The best thing to do is train your cat to use the scratching post. Everytime you see the cat scratching anything but the post take the cat to the post and put its claws on it and praise the kitty for being good and give him treats. After several times doing this the cat will catch on and will only use the scratching post.
Also make the scratching post irresistable by applying catnip to it.

When my cats did this I used a product that sticks to the couch and also has a sticky texture on the outside. When the cat tries to scratch on it their paws stick and they hate that. Eventually they will stop. I think it was called a sticky pad or something but I got it at petsmart. Good luck.

I have 2 cats and I didn't want to get their nails removed. I guess some people when they get cats they get their nails surgically removed which I think is mean. So I bought this couch from Levitz furniture store and the material this couch is made out of is stain proof, you can get blood on it and remove it with a wet wash cloth, and its hard for animals to penetrate their nails through it and the store gives you a 20 year warranty so if my cats were to dig their nails through it, they said I can return it and get a new couch.

Spray bottle, water, squirt generously. Another trick is to take a towel, drape it over the spot they are scratching. Place a paperback book or two on the towel. When they catch a claw on the towel, the book will fall and startle them. It worked for one of my cats, but I have had multiples. Usually the water does it for me.

The best bet is to buy plastic claw covers, they are sold at all major pet retaliers. Declawing can be expensive and most vets don't want to declaw all four paws if your cat gets out it has no way to defend itself, so they usually only declaw the front paws. Which means the cat can still put holes in your furniture and curtains.

Lemon juice does the trick. If not, then buy a scratchpost near his favorite scratching place on the couch.
