Because "expectations are resentments in the making". When you love someone, you expect a lot from the person. Thus, when he/she fails you, you felt disappointed. Try thinking back of the expectations you had in him/her instead of why he/she. And then when you find out it's not a mistake, it wouldn't be about forgiving anymore but more to understanding.

Sometimes it isn't hard at all, it depends on what the person did to hurt you. If it is something trivial then usually forgiveness comes pretty easy. It make take a day or two but that is about it. If the person did something really bad to hurt you then they are stomping on your morals and values. Most people pick partners that have the same morals and values and when trust is broken then it is like they never shared the same morals and values with you.

For some people they have been hurt so much that it is like the person is chopping each branch of love that is growing or has grown on the tree of love for them.

It is actually not hard, it is just hard to make yourself to forgive people, letting go is the most important part in life that we have to learn without grief..

Because when you love someone, you let them inside the walls you have built up around yourself. Your friends (the ones you dont love) are outside thoes walls, so when they hurt you it does not hurt so bad. But when someone you love hurts you, it hurts more because they are inside the walls.
Hope this helps, dont give up on love! Because Love will not give up on you! :-D
