He must be playing with his food , for lack of anything else to do, Just a guess. I have a kitty that will steal hotwheels cars from my nephews while they play on my kitchen floor. They like movement, it must be an instinct.
Perhaps it is like the dog that can throw the ball in the air and catch it again. Your cat is just talented. :)

It's the hunting instinct coming on pretty strong or boredom.
Get your cat some toys. Also when he starts flinging the food take it away.

Cats need to hunt, I read that if you have an indoor cat to place it's food dish in a different spot each day and make the cat hunt for it. This will give him what he needs and challenge his mind. Bored cats /dogs are unhappy pets. :) good luck

Cat's become bored very quickly. Maybe buy him some toy.
A piece of Advice: Don't buy your' cat toys with catnip in them. It's like marijuana for the poor cat's.

He needs more toys to play with. My cat used to take nickels, quarters, and dimes out of my change bowl and put it in his food dish. I got him a bunch of little toys and he just plays with those now.

Sounds like your kitty is bored. It is his way of playing. Do you have other cats? Try buying him some cat nip toys. I have a 14 year old cat that plays with dirty socks. Only dirty ones. This is there way of playing.

Your cat is probably bored.(Maybe even crazy j/k) all my cats do that .they never stop throwing food around. It could be an issue of your cat not liking the kind of food...then again I could be wrong

he is playing, my cay does that but at night real late it is so funny she slides across our wood floors and she will do that all night sometimes then she will just stop and be lazy, i think they just get energy and play, just like people.then they stop cause they get bored or tired of what they are doing.so they find something new.
