California and Texas.
California got its name from a story about a island populated by Amazon warriors, whose queen was named Califia. The story is written by a Spaniard. Early spanish explorers heard tales of women warriors in many parts of the Americas, including California.
Texas is rooted in a Caddo Indian word for friends. The Spanish used the word to name the land that is now Texas. There are many states that are spanish in origin. Either the Spaniards named the area the states are located in or the states were given names derived from Spanish.
