If you're feeling hungry and nothing sounds good, drink 8 ounces of water. They say many times you aren't truly hungry but thirsty and don't even realize it. If you drink 8 oz of water and are still hungry, then eat something. But I bet you won't be hungry at all after that.

Well firstly you need to check if you are really hungry because you haven't eaten since the night before for instance. Or you are hungry because you are bored.etc
I tend to think you are bored or upset lonely or some emotional problem ,when you get to feeling hungry
When you are really hungry you don't care what choice you have in food ,you just make do with what you have.
One suggestion is to eat more vegies, fruit , grains low G.I foods you'll feel full longer and your metabolism will get to working better etc. and pamper yourself with a treat other than food, like a bubble bath, then you won't have those hungry feelings when you don't need to.

This is how you stay away from junk food. Just dont buy them.
Bite on a small apple not any larger than the one that fits in your palm. A guide on size - When you hold the apple the middle finger should wrap around and touch your wrist.
A celery stick with peanutbutter and raisin filled.
Go easy on that filling, though.
Salt free crackers just a few. about 4. Rice cakes one. Drink plenty of water. Black coffee or white coffee without sugar.
One 2" square slab of cheese. A glass of milk with honey. Heat the milk it fills you up better.
So you have plenty to eat. What are you complaining about?
No potato chips, no candy bar, no french fries. That's it.

OK, some good answers so far. Let me broach the obvious if I may...this has what to do with pain management? Oh, might you mean hunger pains? Clever...missed that.
If you do the grocery shopping for yourself as I do make sure that what ever you buy you have at least a 75% chance you'll actually eat it! Always include a majority of the foods (at least semi healthy?) you know you will find appetizing and or can cook quickly.
And finally, speaking as a bachelor...their is always some place nearby that will deliver food that you enjoy.

Please remember "Hunger is the best medicine and the best doctor too". You can eat anything with a faith that it is Gods' gift that you got it. If doubt arises in mind then it is less useful.
You should prefer fruits. Fruits will help keeping your health.
If you are too hungry you should go for spicy foods. I can't suggest you salads at this moment, but if possible use them.
I use to grow sprouts when such situation arises, but i am afraid how far you like them.

I oftentimes purchase a rotisserie chicken from the food market and cook dinner up some eco-friendly beans and rice a roni! this evening i did not sense very comparable to cooking --- so I went out to the food market and offered frozen filled shells and marinara sauce. I baked them and it grow to be yummy! I have a freezer stocked with stuff i have made --- frequently after I cook dinner I make more suitable and freeze it. So, I frequently have some thing to get in the freezer if i favor it.

I buy only low calorie foods and fruit for snacks. My Husband and I are both watching our weight...By not having other foods in the house,we eat whats there or we don't eat...It's just our way of not eating the foods we don't need...
