Has anyone else had this happen? Whenever I try to scoop the litter box (usually 3-4 times a day), unless I have the cats shut in the bedroom, they will pounce on the scoop, both will simultaneously sit in the box, and they will start kicking litter on to the floor and doing everything within their power to try and prevent me from cleaning the box. Do they not like clean litter boxes or something?

To answer what they are putting out, they tend to defecate 1-2 times a day each, and urinate 2-4 times a day each. I am feeding them Innova EVO cat and kitten dry free feeding, as well as giving them a variety of canned foods twice a day (they hardly eat any of the canned food I give them though)

Three or four times a day even for 2 cats seems a bit much. How much do these cats put out? What are you feeding them?
They are just playing anyway. Give them more attention when it's not litter cleaning time, then it won't seem like a big deal.
Cut the scooping down to two times a day, morning and evening, Feed the cats in another room while you take care of business. Cats will be distracted.

My cats do that too. I can only assure you that they are this way NOT because they don't like it when you clean their litter box. Quite the opposite, they love it. They love a clean litter box, they love it when you are taking car of their things.
It also seems to me that mine are waiting to use it again as soon as I am done cleaning it, as if they wanted to mark it again as their own. Meanwhile they are enjoying themselve, playing with the scoop and brush swishing around, and mostly watching me and being with me.
Three or four times a day can be a little too much but some cats do hate having a dirty litter box and will do on the side if it is too full. Some like having two litter box, one for each business.

It is play! My cats have been like that in the past. The more litter you have, the funnier they think it is to kick it everywhere.! Try putting the litter box in a cardboard box, this would save the litter getting everywhere. Also, make sure you don't OVERCLEAN- they may not recognise some of the scent that they leave behind. Cats if young are practising for when they start pooing in the outside. They have big advantage over dogs in that they bury what they made. Good luck!

Well, most cats are possessive...if the cats are new, i suggest you clean it when they aren't around for a while, once they realize that a clean litter is a good litter, they'll soon accept the fact that you are invading through their stuff, that or hav them put behind a screen, or inside a cage, and let them watch you clean their litter, once you are done, let them out and investigate what you have done...
But, it's either they are just being possessive, or they are playing, My cat Foby likes to watch me clean the box and whenever the scooper comes near him, he'll bat it and try to stop it from moving. Your cats are probably just playing around, if not above...

I had one (it grow to be a Littermaid) and it worked nicely for one cat, 2 cats grow to be too a lot for it. My grownup cats had no difficulty adjusting to it. It supplies them a lot of time to go back and bypass so it truly is compared to they are startled mid-squat. i do not advise the Littermaid, it truly is the most regular form. i'm certain there are others obtainable. There are too many nooks to sparkling and it always look yucky no remember how a lot I wiped clean it. The worst section is the area of the plug for the AC adapter - it truly is excellent on properly, uncovered. My cat peed on it and shorted it out and sparks shot everywhere and scorched some issues in the closet. it truly is stunning my abode did not seize on fireplace. i recognize my cat has undesirable target, yet come on... some undemanding sense enhancements and it may well be a more suitable constructive product.

My four month old kitten does this too. I think she is just playing. She see's it as her litter box and has no idea what I am doing. If someone else lives with you, have that person keep your kitty playing while you clean it. Otherwise, I just talk to the kitty while she watches. "It's ok. kitty." And that kind of thing.
