We had spaghetti bolognaise for dinner tonight and this is the first time I have not sprayed myself with sauce, this was due to a hollow centre in the spaghetti and when the end was near my mouth there was no sudden whip at the end, it was great.

If your pasta has a hollow center is it actually "Bucatini" NOT Spaghetti !!!

Spaghetti is solid. I buy Bucatini due to it cooking faster and allowing the sauce to get into the hole.

: )

Happy Sunday !!

You demented fool. Where are your manners? Didn't your mother teach you how to eat spaghetti. Here's how it works. As you begin sucking the spaghetti into your mouth, start slowly, with your head bent down toward the plate. Gradually accelerate the spaghetti by applying more suction. Now, this is the important part; when the spaghetti has been about three quarters sucked, tilt your head back with some quickness so the remaining part is near vertical. Open your mouth wide and let the unfinished part drop in. This avoids the whip and resulting splatter. This method requires a little practice, as the timing is critical. For instance, if you open your mouth too soon, with your head moving too quickly, you're likely to loose control of the spaghetti. It may become airborne. I suggest you initially practice with spaghetti. Linguini can be sloppy. Vermicelli requires considerable skill, and angel hair pasta requires the skill of a true master. Good luck!!!

You sure it wasn't Maccheroncelli or Perciatelli/Bucatini?

*But to answer your question; No, spaghetti does not have hollow centers. It would help if it was hollow, if that's the way how you eat your "spaghetti". Since true spaghetti is solid, you have less control when you slurp it. You have to put in a little more effort and control in eating long hollow pastas.

Well, think of it as the difference of sipping a drink through a straw (spaghetti) and sipping the same one through a straw with holes (bucatini). It doesn't come to you at one whole time when eating bucatini.

Short answer no.
Many pastas classified as spaghetti are solid forms rather than hollow. Flat strip type pasta is linguini. There are various grades of spaghetti from coars to fine and most are solid

That was not spaghetti, it was probably either bucatini or perciatelli.
