You are getting sleepy because you have eaten too much and when your body feels you have eatent too much it wants to shut down the rest of the body and concentrate on digesting the big meal. So you get sleepy and your body is busy turning your food into energy stores and fat.

Generally it happens with everybody. Don't worry it's not a illness. There is a scientific cause of it that when u eat a lot than the majority of your body blood enters nearthe stomach region since stomach at that time is fully functional to digest the eated food and hence the brain does not get the sufficient blood and therefore only it feels sleepy.
Best thing to do: Eat less i.e. not full stomach and you will be fine even after having the meal.
Any more question u can contact me. Bye and take care.. :)

Why do big meals make us sleepy? Or as Peter Beyers, an associate professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, put it: ''Why do we zonk right after Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma's house?''

The answer is the rush of blood to the stomach, a sort of ''all hands on deck'' call to help with the large amounts of invading proteins, carbohydrates and fats. With the blood go oxygen and glucose, depriving the brain of needed support.

Factors determining the depth and length of fatigue are the amount of calories consumed and, to a lesser extent, whether the food is protein, carbohydrate or fat, said Susan Zbornik, a registered dietitian at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Blood is marshaled and sent to the stomach in proportion to the number of calories ingested. The body then digests the different nutrients at different times, stretching out that energy-using process, and your couch time.

Carbohydrates start being absorbed by the body 15 to 20 minutes after consumption. Proteins start being digested 25 minutes to an hour later, and ''reach their peak about the time carbohydrate absorption is starting to slow down,'' Ms. Zbornik said. Fats take over where the proteins leave off, so there is absorption still occurring 3 to 5 hours after the meal, depending on the diner's metabolism. So the more fat you eat, the longer you will feel tired. But although you feel sluggish, Ms. Zbornik noted that your body is actually working hard to handle all that food.

Even animals sleep after eating, lucky them that they can.. its because more blood is sent to the digestive system and that requires more energy.. It takes up to 50 % of your bodys energy to digest food.. Thats why I always eat very little at lunchtime because I would get too uncomfortable and tired if I ate too much, Very hard going back to work after lunch if you feel like that..

Sugar. Yes, your body is trying to digest that food and turn the sugar from carb into energy. Your body tells you that it is busy doing an important function, that is to digest. Your body wants to rest.
