It can't hurt, dog owners have been using it for years. It has oil and some essential vitamins but little else!
The omega 3 oil is not in a form that we or dogs can digest so doesn't do any good. The oil is laxative so don't overdo it!

I work in a kennel for a breeder of Portuguese water dogs which she shows. We add a teaspoon of cod liver oil and a 1/2 tsp of Flax Oil to their food in the mornings to prevent dry skin (there are also other benefits, but I won't go into all of them here). These are 45-50 lb dogs, so you'll want to adjust for size. We have 2 Bichons that are kept as pets who only get 1/4 tsp of each. I have found that just using the oil on their morning feedings is easier that giving the capsules.

All my dogs get cod liver oil capsules, not every day though, it doesn't do a dog good to have too much vitamin A, I give them 2-3 times a week, I also give them Glucosamine and Chondroitin but again not every day, speak to your vet before giving anything not prescribed though.

Cod Liver Oil is great for coat quality, but does not work so well with hips. Hips require a product with Chondroitin and/or glucosamine. In addition to this, be sure you are feeding a high quality food. Nutrition does make a difference.
I would actually recommend a company called Springtime, Inc (http://www.springtimeinc.com/). They have great products for dogs (people and horses too). They have a general tablet called Fresh factor. It has chondroitin in it. It's very safe.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://tinyurl.im/A5iiA
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Its OK but stick to the dose recommended and stop giving them when the weather gets hotter as cod liver oil can cause dogs to overheat

Someone told me to give it my dog to improve the shine on her coat, and I actually saw cod liver oil tablets for dogs in the pet shop! So I guess it would be grand!
