There are two many! Especially in youth and hip-hop culture they seem to start new everyday. They also change from region to region in the U.S. I am a High School Special Needs teacher. I try yo be aware of slang kids are using, but it is impossible.

About someone using it against you or trying to offend you. I suggest being yourself. If someone tries to insult you with slang (or without) just ignore it and be gracious. Then when they are insulting you and you don't know it you can be gracious and kind. Eventually people will realize you a nice person and mean people will leave you alone and nice people will want to spend time with you.

Another problem is slang changes in English. The term 'hot' applied to a woman in Shakespeare's time meant she had a sexually transmitted disease and should be avoided. Today, it means sexually attractive. When I was in High School a "hummer" was slang for oral sex, now it is a pathetic oversized car. Just a few years ago it was a great insult to call a woman "fat". Now, it is a compliment to call her "phat", even though the sound the same.

It's better for you if you don't know any English slang and you're a foreigner who only visits the USA once in a while, trust me.

Then what is with your last question about you not being an American? Believe me, not knowing slang is to your advantage as you will be understood by people with intelligence.
