use a dark rum for sure. but dont use the best highest priced one there is. those have to much flavlr and will take over your tiramisu find one that is in the middle of the line so it will compliment the other flavors. but use enough so you can taste it. if you cant taste it there is no point in adding it. try myers's jamacian dark rum. it is some what of the standard in most kitchens.

it should not. if you are making it just for yourself you can use a cheaper one but if you will be serving it to you guest buy a very good grade of rum
