what are/or could be any consequences of me lying about my car insurance renewal when i do 26,000miles per year and if i put that i only did 10,000miles my insurance would be alot cheaper it would go from £240p/m to £180p/m!?!?!?!?!?
how would the insurers know how many miles i did per year?

well unless they come around & take a look at ur mileage, they're taking u at ur word.
& rest assured the fact that ur paying ur car insurance at all, is a bonus 4 them!
some folks refuse 2 pay 4 any insurance & WE pay 4 them with a 5% hike in OUR premiums!

Well for a start when they ask to see a copy of your licence they'll know A) your age and B) how long you've been driving. Whether or not it's in a garage or has an immobiliser actually doesn't make much of a difference. It's your age and experience that counts more than anything, plus whether you've got any NCB. That's not to say they won't find out, if you try and claim and an assessor turns up at your door and wants to see the locked garage the car was stolen out of. Do you really think some dumb kid like you is smarter than a multi-billion pound insurance company? Lying about the car being in a garage won't come into it when Plod stop you, but if the insurance company find out you've been defrauding them you can stick another zero onto the end of any quote for any kind of car insurance you apply for over the next 10 years.....

That's a no-brainer for the insurance company. They'll want the odometer reading when they issue the policy. Then when you have a claim (or renew the policy) they'll want to know the odometer reading again. The maths on that is so simple that I won't bother explaining it.

If you're looking at even 180 quid a month for cover it would make much more sense to get something that's cheaper to insure than to try to pull a fast one on an insurance company. If you get caught out on this your insurance cover will be null and void; you don't need that aggro!

If there ever is a claim against your insurance & they check, you'll find yourself answering questions like "How come you've clocked up 75000 miles in three years, instead of 30000?"

It's only a rough figure, true, but go too far and you'll suddenly find yourself out on your own! it's never worth lying, they have whole departments looking for ways to avoid paying out.

mileage is now shown on your MOT certification at the garage...this is down loaded to a main frame computer, the insurance companies have access to this... But the worst lie is when a 20 year old driving a Vauxhaul Nova declares that there are no modifications to his factory built motor even when he has a full body kit, big blow exhaust, alloy wheels and fluffy dice thus rendering his insurance null and void...

They won't know necessarily, but if something were to happen in the meantime such as you having a claim or other vehicle inspection where your true mileage was found out, and they determined you are putting more miles on your car than you say you do, I suppose they could just raise your rate if the mileage made a difference.

Most auto Insurance providers will also ask your odometer reading. This will tell them exactly how far you drove during whatever period you are covered for. It is a savings, but at what cost if you have an accident and it isn't covered due to the lie.

You may get caught out!

Sometimes they ask for a mileage and it has been known for them to ask for MOT certificates after accidents! This is how they get you - if you can't supply the MOT they won't pay up!

Secondly, the new MOT's are computerised and they can get access to the records, which show the mileage! As certain people have found out recently and lost all payouts on their claims!

Not worth it - lie and have an accident and injure someone (or worse) and you are on your own!

Say you got your car totalled in an accident...they would learn the mileage and then if it was over 10,000 they just may not pay for your accident because of the lie. Think about if you really want to worry about this for the whole year and is it worth the risk?
