Its a language spoken by more than 120 million people in East, Central and parts of Southern African continent. Its official language of Tanzania and second official language in Kenya and Uganda. Other countries where Swahili is spoken is Rwanda, DRC, Burundi, Commoros, east of Malawi, north of Mozambique.

Its a rich African language whose importance is grawing faster and faster. Its one of the official languages of the African Union and one of the recognized languages at the UN.

Its easy to learn and widely tought in various Universities all over the world, and broadcasted by many stations in the World.

One of the best place to learn Kiswahili would be the University of Dar-es-Salaam or Foreign Languages Institute in Zanzibar. Other universities in Kenya and Uganda are also teaching Swahili courses.

In Europe, the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London is probably the best place to learn Swahili. Many other european universities also teach Swahili. In the States, there are many universities teaching Swahili all over the USA.

The best and easiest book, I found, is Simplified Swahili, by Wilson.

Your chances are good, both in terms of learning the language and mastering it in a short period of time and also in terms of future emplyoment. Its importance is grwaring very fast.

MSN has recently ingtroduced Swahili version! There is also Wikipedia in Kiswahili! I would not be surprised if Yahoo too start to do the same!

A good question to your government! Here in Norway Swahili is one of the subjects of languages in most Universities.

Try going to a bookstore such as "Barnes & Nobels" and I'm sure they will have language books to learn Swahili.
