Hi Leanne...if your cat has not been spayed/neutered this may be one possible cause. However a spayed/neutered will sometimes shag inanimate items to exhibit dominance behaviours to establish that they are the top boss.

Because he is a Tom Cat. Take him to the vet and fix him.
He still might persist in this behavior after he's neutered because it is also related to dominance. I'm a big boss cat. But if you don't want him stinking up the joint, get him fixed right away.

He needs neuturing. He will keep doing it otherwise. He will also start spraying and believe me you don't want that! You will never get rid of the smell. Take him to the vets and get those nuts removed!

wouldn't you if you could! i think getting him neutered would help loads. go to your vets and they sometimes offer a special price! its a really quick op and normally they are back within a day
