he is also very dominant with other dogs no matter what size. Would getting him neutered solve this problem?

It would help, but not 100 solve.

Get some dog repellant from Petco/smart. It works for my markers.

Also scolding.

I don't have any personal experience with spraying since my first Jack Russell was neutered at about 8 months, but from what I understand, once a male starts spraying, it's nearly impossible to make him quit, and even neutering won't solve the problem. Although, what would prompt a Jack Russell to start spraying all of a sudden at 7 years old is beyond me.

Neutering will definitely help. Also, make sure to completely eradicate any urine smell from times he's marked. Use an enzyme cleanser formulated for pet urine like Petastic or Nature's Miracle (you can check for urine with a black light). Lingering smells can trigger continued marking.

You also should address why your dog has suddenly started this behavior. It sounds like the dog might be stressed; you might take a look around and see what is triggering it. If it is other animals in the house, you might try putting some Rescue Remedy (from the naturopathic section of your grocery store) in the pet water and see if that helps (the solution is all-natural and safe and definitely not a tranquilizer; it just helps take the edge off). When you bring your dog in to be neutered, ask your vet for additional ideas or suggestions.

Nope. Especially now that he is a senior of seven. He is not just being macho with the other dogs, he is being macho with you.

wouldn't hurt. but it would have prevented this problem if you'd done it 7years ago. and it's not "cool" he acts this way. poor dog. he's not a happy dog if he's acting dominant, he's insecure and you need to be a better owner. have him neutered.

I WOULD GET THE DOG SPAYED IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BREED! HE WILL STOP SPRAYING THE HOUSE AND IT IS MUCH HEALTHIER FOR THE DOG !

GOOD LUCK
